What is Community Solar?
FREEDOM TO SAVE, POWER TO CHOOSE
Minnesota’s Community Solar Garden (CSG) program empowers Minnesotans to subscribe to a local solar project and receive direct savings on their electricity bill, regardless of homeownership or rooftop space.

LOCAL POWER, LOCAL BENEFITS
Community solar projects have provided lower electric bills, clean energy, local jobs, long-term revenue opportunities for farmers and landowners, and a more resilient energy grid. With faster deployment than utility-scale projects, community solar provides energy closer to where it’s needed most, which reduces transmission costs, strengthens local infrastructure, and enhances grid reliability.
PROTECTING MINNESOTA’S FUTURE
The Community Solar Garden program faces significant threats from proposed legislation and regulatory hurdles. According to a 2024 report commissioned by the Department of Commerce, the community solar program has provided clean, more affordable energy to over 34,000 Minnesota families and businesses, and is expected to bring Minnesotans over $1.67 billion in economic benefits. Rolling it back will eliminate local clean energy jobs, weaken our grid, and reduce savings for thousands of struggling families and businesses.
