Community Solar Hits the Road with Wisconsin Statewide Road Show

MADISON, WI — This year, community solar surpassed 7 GW of installed capacity nationally and Wisconsin stands on the cusp of taking advantage of this innovative, rapidly growing energy source. To demonstrate the benefits community solar will bring to the state, the Our Sun. Our Power. Wisconsin Coalition is hosting a road show, highlighting local business owners, partners, landowners, and elected officials who support this push for local, clean energy.
Our Sun. Our Power. Wisconsin includes a diverse group of supporters, including the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, Walmart, The Wisconsin Associated Builders and Contractors, The Wisconsin Grocers Association, and others across the state who support this effort.
“In Wisconsin, people are ready to see lower energy costs through community solar – and landowners are ready to generate the energy that makes it happen,” says Steve Lyons, Spokesperson for Our Sun. Our Power. Wisconsin. “We urge lawmakers to embrace this locally sourced, cost-effective energy that stands to generate billions in economic activity and bring thousands of jobs to the state.”
Community solar refers to a solar array located within a community where multiple customers can subscribe and receive a credit on their utility bill for their share of the power that’s produced, just as if the panels were on their roof. Current Wisconsin state legislation does not allow for the private development of community solar programs. This road show, and the supporters and legislators on it, want to change that in order for electric customers to be able to subscribe and receive credit on their utility bills for their share of the power produced.
The road show will be making the following stops, highlighting local communities, landowners, and partners who stand to benefit from local, renewable energy.
